Macular Degeneration Laser Treatment

Types of Macular Degeneration and Treatments

Macular degeneration begins as a "dry" disease, for which the only treatment is nutritional. About 10-15% of patients will progress to a more aggressive form of the disease, called "wet" macular degeneration. Fortunately, we now have treatments that can stabilize or even improve vision when the macula becomes "wet". Patients who develop wet macular degeneration may sometimes benefit from laser treatment. A laser can be used to cauterize abnormal sub-retinal blood vessels to prevent enlargement of a blind spot. Also available are several injectable medications that have revolutionized the management of this disease with better outcomes than ever before. Lucentis, Avastin, Eyelea, Visudyne, are among the treatments available in both our office locations.

I have all the faith in Dr. Kriegstein. He takes good care of me and makes me feel comfortable. I love the staff and I trust Dr. Kriegstein and I just know I am in good hands. I wouldn't see anyone else for my eyes.
